Description
On the paths of history, the plateau of Cavillore deserves special attention: the Roman road to the rectilinear route, the oppida of Thoronet or Colle Basse, former priory of Saint Vincent, troglodytic fortress concealed in the cliff, A distant human occupation.
Emerging from the houses of the village, the fortress of Gourdon narrates some 10 centuries of a history inaugurated with the Sarrazins (9th and 10th centuries); Its restoration is due to an American, Mrs Moris, who snatched it in 1918 to an ineluctable abandonment.
Well known to paragliders, the Cavillore plateau offers a magnificent panorama of the coast, 1,000 meters below, if the fog does not come to play the spoils.
Speleologists, on the other hand, regularly visit its avenues, whose narrow gutter can be seen at the turn of the path.
