Description
The coppice-hops and the groves of alisiers which cover the steep slopes of Mount Razet testify to a climate already subject to Alpine influences.
The bay of Menton, which monopolises the gaze along the course, reminds nevertheless the proximity of the Mediterranean, the elevated altitude of Mount Razet (1,285 m) allowing to throw on the surroundings a synoptic look.
The French Military Staff understood this well, and since 1930, it was all its art to invest the site called "La Pierre Pointue" where blockhouses, galleries, casemates or other turrets truffle literally the ground, half a century Not having been enough to alleviate these poignant scars.
At the foot of Mount Razet, Castillon gradually forgets a turbulent history: completely destroyed during the earthquake of 1887, it was rebuilt before being ruined during the terrible bombardments of 1944-45.
The new village, rebuilt on three levels slightly below the Col de Castillon, attracted many artists.
