Description
The commune of La Brigue, which remained Piedmontese in 1860 when the County of Nice became part of France, became French in 1947 with its neighbor Tende.
But the Ligurian slopes of the commune and the four hamlets they sheltered remained Italian.
This itinerary aims to catch up the story by climbing the summit of Marta (2,135 m) and driving along the border towards the head of the Nava.
An ideal belvedere on Italian Liguria and on the eastern Mercantour, the border ridge delimits the immense forest of conifers (mainly firs) which inhabit the ubac dominating the Brig, an important forest commune of the Alpes-Maritimes with its 4,100 ha of surface Wooded area.
It should be noted that the Italian town of Triora has conserved 679 ha in joint ownership in the communal forest of La Brigue, its right on the product of the cuts being restricted to 1/4 against 3/4 for the Brigue!
