Description
Above the hamlet of Vignols, one enters through the Portes de Longon in a valley in suspended trough offering a nice perspective on the pyramid of Mount Mounier (2,817 m).
The shady lawn occupies the plateau of Longon and the slopes in adret which accomodate in summer the flocks of sheep, cows and horses.
The cowshed of Longon, an imposing building seen in the distance, used to be used exclusively for the estive of the cows of the commune of Roure; Now partly transformed into a shelter, it also hosts hikers who will be able to make a stop there.
On the ridges of Mount Gravières, numerous military constructions (forts, shelters, trenches) remind us that the Franco-Italian border corresponded, downstream from Isola, to Tinée.
This line of defense was opposed to the impressive fortifications built on the left bank by the Italians on the narrow ridge of Mont Saint-Sauveur.
