Description
This easy hike leads to one of the two sites of rock carvings of Merveilles, above Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende.
Less known than the area of ??the Arpette, nearby Fontanalbe area has an astonishing wealth of "petroglyphs" of agrarian inspiration.
Pastoral peoples have left an indelible imprint on their summer passage about 4,000 years ago.
This grandiose site enamelled by numerous lakes is dominated by Mount Bego (2,872 m), imposing summit symbol of divinity.
Larch forests, peaceful lakes and archeological interest combine nicely to offer a route that can be complemented by a guided tour from the lakes of Jumeaux or Fontanalbe refuge (visits organized daily with registration on site during the summer season).
