Description
"Eghisse", "Eguise" or "Eguisse", as many documents, as many graphs for this steep site of the gorges of the Vésubie which shelters a realgar deposit, natural sulphuret of arsenic to the color orange red.
The gold mining period dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century: daily extraction reached a maximum of 3 tons for a workforce of 18 workers in 1910.
A factory of roasting (heating of ore in the open air) was even installed from 1913, of which one can still guess the massive installations at the edge of a deep precipice.
Some twisted rails, a trolley skeleton, a gallery entrance, old ruined huts serving as a dormitory or refectory are here and there, gradually taken over by anarchic vegetation reigning as the sole master since the mine closed in 1931 .
