Description
Although Lieuche counted nearly 200 inhabitants in the nineteenth century, it is since the Second World War the municipality least populated of the department.
This pleasant village, spread on a sunny flat and surrounded by a mountainous and wooded circus (Mont Lieuche 1 759 m, Mount Fracha 1 748 m), offers a beautiful view on the gorges of the Cians, the red lands of the Cluots and the village Of Rigaud in opposite.
On the square, the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity (XVII) with its altarpiece by Louis Bréa welcomes the visitor: this panel painted on wood representing the Annunciation (1499) is one of the best works of this artist Reputed Niçois.
This circuit presents three characteristic aspects of the site of Lieuche: a shady and cool forest ubac, a Mediterranean crossing associating pubescent oaks and scots pines and an agreste descent between the terraces of cultures and the valleys of gray marl.
